Chiang Mai, Thailand

The map of the old city shows the moat that was constructed around the area for protection. Part of the old brick walls still remain with the main street running beside the waterway.
The Three Kings who agreed to create Chiang Mai - the new City.
Tuk-tuk is the easiest means of transportation..........certainly the fastest !!
Markets are everywhere but Sunday is a special "handicraft" market. They are extremely well attended.
Neu is a university student who asked to interview Ralph. Many of the students want to practice their English as well as they are assigned to interview English tourists. She was an example of the "New Thailand" breaking away from the traditions.
Being that Chiang Mai is not near the Sea, dried salty fish is a special treat for the Thia people.
Sunday was a special ceremony for many different groups of Thai people as they gathered in this park for awards. Districts compete in different areas and were in their national dress. We saw about 8 different groups that afternoon. Thought I would join the "girls" but not really dressing the part!
